Oregon Cluster Network

In 2005, The Oregon Business Plan has launched the Oregon Cluster Network to identify Oregon's mature, emerging, and potential industry clusters and assist cluster participants as they work to accelerate innovation and the growth of their industries.

By consciously connecting industry leaders with university researchers, schools, media, venture capital, and other resources, the network will help generate new prospects for business recruitment, develop relevant economic & market data, guide public policy, and help cluster facilitators across the state share best practices and develop a regional collaborative advantage.

Cluster Network activities are guided by the Cluster Network Leadership Council, a smaller group of thought leaders representing diverse professional backgrounds and a balance of industry, academic, and public agency representatives.

The Council meets on every few months to discuss progress on cluster-based economic development, focus on areas of interest that cut-across clusters and plan for events and opportunities such as  the Oregon Leadership Summit and grant/funding opportunities.  Anyone interested in advancing cluster-based economic development is welcome to attend the CNLC meetings.

Cluster Network Structure

Cluster Network activities are guided by the Cluster Network Leadership Council, a smaller group of thought leaders representing diverse professional backgrounds and a balance of industry, academic, and public agency perspectives.  The group is limited in size in order to foster continuity of discussion between Leadership Council meetings and focus on identifying ways to more effectively connect industry clusters with relevant support services, resources, and other cluster practitioners.  The Leadership Council meetings, which take place approximately every six weeks, focus on addressing the questions:

1. What are the needs of traded sector clusters in the area of focus?

2. How well do we currently address those needs?

3. What could be done to improve the relationships?

4. What specific actions would move us forward right away?

While all people with an interest in cluster development or the specific area of focus (ie. Workforce, data collection, etc.) are encouraged to attend the Leadership Council meetings, the meetings are not meant to provide comprehensive information on any one focus area or answer all participants’ questions relating to the topic.  Rather, the Leadership Council meetings provide a forum for meaningful conversation about the ways to improve cluster competitiveness and use cluster practitioners’ real world experiences to inform the discussion. Further information about cluster development efforts, events, and research, can be shared through www.OregonClusters.org.
